Seeing General Doctor for Cystic Pimple?

I have an HMO so I have to see my doctor first before I see a specialist. What will the Doctor do, if anything? Can the regular doctor drain it and give me a cortisone shot like the Derm could? I've never had one of these things before, so I don't know what the typically trtment is.

Thanks so much!Seeing General Doctor for Cystic Pimple?
The doctor should be able to easily help you with this cystic pimple. I am not sure the exact treatment that will be needed in your case, but in the case of ANY blemish, illness, or injury an MD will do the standard treatment and if that doesn't work then he will refer you to a specialist. Most likely he will be able to help you and you won't have to go to a specialist though. Good luck.

Additional: Annie is right, you ought to try that first. That works really well. It is also good for many other dermatological issues as well, for instance bad insect bites, poison ivy, rashes, etc. Good luck.Seeing General Doctor for Cystic Pimple?
You might try using a paste of baking soda and water first. Add water a few drops at a time to baking soda to form a stiff paste. Clean the area with soap and water and towel dry. Let it finish air drying for a few seconds and spread the paste on it. Let the paste throughly dry (about 1/2 hr to 45mins) and rinse off with cool water. You can do this 3-4 times a day till it is gone. Good luck.
Benzoyl Peroxide is very useful for treating 'not so severe' cystic acne.

For severe form of cystic acne, the oral drug, isotretinoin is used. It is credited with cleaning up severe cystic acne forever. It is a very powerful drug and therefore should not be used without a prescription.

Good Luck!
